Malaysia international Fashion Week returns
Brace yourselves, fashionistas. The Malaysia International Fashion Week 2010 is back to walk the walk. Arguably the biggest fashion event in Malaysia, M-IFW is an ongoing effort by the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance (Mifa) to support the professional development of local fashion designers and to promote the Malaysian fashion industry in the global arena.
M-IFW ’10, themed “Larger Than Life”, is the eight installment of the annual event. It will take place at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from Nov 2 – 6. Popular local designers such as Michael Ong, Bernard Chandran, Farah Khan and Eric Choong are among the 70 Malaysian designers who will showcase their designs at the event.International brands including Emilio Pucci, Helmut Lang and Halston will also make an appearance at M-IFW’10, which will feature 18 fashion showcases altogether. But M-IFW’10 is not all about big-names and big-time designers. Up-and-coming new designers from Malaysia will get a chance to flaunt their creations too. “It’s a way of helping ‘low-lying’ brands,” says mifa’s chief executive officer Syeba Yip. Continue reading…

Canadian fashion designer Maggie Coulombe is based in Hawaii and travels a lot, but Vancouver has a special place in her heart. Because many of her clients lead a jet-setter lifestyle, Coulombe creates designs that are comfortable and versatile but also stylish. Known for her Versace like prints and slinky cocktail dresses, she also designs footwear, accessories, and island-flavoured jewellery that relies heavily on multi-hued Tahitian pearls. Vancouver Fashion Week, running from Nov. 2 – 7, began in 2000 and has since become a global platform for both established and up-and-coming designers.
The following images, taken outside Coulombe’s store in Lahaina, are from the collection she will debut at Vancouver Fashion Week. Continue reading…
Things To Remember When Buying A Cashmere Sweater
Things To Remember When Buying A Cashmere Sweater
A cashmere wool sweater is an investment. You spend hundreds of dollars just once and then enjoy the comfort, warmth and style for a lifetime.
There are a few important things to remember when buying a cashmere sweater. These are the following:
1. When you have spotted a sweater of your choice Pull gently and release the sides of the sweater. A high-quality garment which has typical tight cashmere fabrics knits returns to its proper shape. A sweater made out of loose knits does not return to its original shape.
2. Feel the fabric of the sweater you like. Categorize if it feels coarse or fuzzy. If it feels coarse that is the sign of poor quality. In the world of cashmere, soft is the key word. Lighter-colored wool sweaters are better as they are made out of natural colors. Darker dyes are harsher on the yarn; the chemical affects the softness of the wool.
3. Closely study the knit of the sweater. If the sweater is two-ply knit, it will be sturdier as compared to a one ply knit. But the great thing about cashmere wool is that the sweater still stays light weight.
4. Real cashmere wool sweaters are expensive. If you see a bargain that is too good to be true then stop and think. Cashmere and sheep wool blends have been sold as 100 percent cashmere with the label of being pure. So don’t get robbed and come home with a fake.
